NIRF Eligibility — Can Your College Apply?

By Chitranjan Jegadeesan · NIRF 2026 methodology

Before chasing a rank, confirm you can even compete. NIRF has a few hard eligibility gates.

The core gate: 3 graduated batches

An institution must have produced at least three graduated batches — roughly 5–6 years of operation — before it can rank. You can't judge a college that has never sent students into the world.

Category eligibility isn't free choice

You compete in the list you qualify for. For example, an autonomous engineering college races in Engineering (and possibly Overall) but may not be eligible for the "Colleges" list (which is for degree colleges). SDG and Innovation are separate rankings with their own methodology — not points inside your Engineering score. Confirm eligibility before targeting a category.
